I made it to the top.

I’m going to talk about my visit to Space Needle. For sure this is one of the most iconic places from Seattle, even before arriving here I really wanted to visit it!!
So finally Friday I did!! It wasn’t planned because my friends and I went to Downtown  Waterfront with the intention to take a ride on the Harbor Cruise Tour but when we got there the ferry had already left!! So we had to change our planes; first we decided to get on the Great Wheel, even the ride was very short I enjoyed every second haha, I could see the Stadium, The Columbia Tower, The Smith Tower and the Space Needle!! We had a lot of fun there and also a lot of free time but we didn’t want to go back to the apartment, so my friends said they’d like to go to Queen Anne to interview people because it was their homework so I went with them. There are many places like bares and coffee shops and places to do yoga! We also went to a Mexican restaurant and and my friends wanted a mexican beer but we didn’t carry our Passports with us! L
We finished early our visit to Queen Anne and when we were on the bus station my friend Araci said “What if we go to Space Needle?” And we took the bus to downtown.
It didn’t disappointed me!! The view is amazing!! We could see the sunset and the whole dark Seattle lighted by the buildings, it was so beautiful!!

PD. This is PhotoShop hahaha but the real ones are still on the camera

Interviews with Native Speakers

We did this activity last Friday. Memo, Linda and I are going to talk about Music in Seattle, we thought this is a great topic because people in here love music.
First we were waiting to talk to someone but my other classmates didn’t  want to stop talking with the natives haha. We started with the other group teacher (I don’t remember her name, but we call her: “La del gorrito”) who is ver nice and spreaded us her joy. We asked her what she thought about music and she said she knows a few festivals, she tolds us that nowadays young people prefer listen to rap and rock.
Then we talked to Alex he was the most shy of all, the interview was very short and he practically told us the same. After that we talk to our tecaher Frieda. She said she didn’t know much of music, but she provided great info, then we interviewed Nancy who is a mexican girl she spoke about her, and she said her parents are from Guanajuato and she studied Social Work and now she’s doing a Master in Public Administration in UW.
Finally we met David and he was the best!! Haha. He told us that he likes Banda music a very famous genre in México but as he really likes guns he said he loves Gangster Banda o as we call them in Mexico. “corridos” because the lyrics of this songs usually talks about guns and dead.

We have much info to do our Project and now is time to plan an activity out of classroom like go to a concert or bar where musicians play. I like this topic, I think we’ll have a lot of fun!!

Coffee Shop Visit

We visited the most popular coffee shops in the AVE to get information about Seattleites and their love for coffee. Francisco, Diana and  I went to Starbucks.
First we planned a strategy to interview the barista because as always Starbucks was crowded and the baristas looked very busy, so Francisco suggested that we could ask for a coffee and then make some questions to the girl but we hadn’t decided yet when Diana started to talk and we had to change the plan.
We asked the girl a few questions she told us that the most popular drink this time of year is the peppermint mocha coffee and in the summer is the ice coffee, they open on weekends and the busiest time of the day is from 5 to 10 and for people who don’t like coffee she recommend ice tea or chocolate, and she answer the best she could  but other girl came with an angry face and told her to go doing something and she would answer us.
We asked the other girl what coffee she would recommend us and she suggested the Christmas Specials, we asked for three differents and Diana took the Caramel coffee, Francisco took the Eggnog and I got the Chesnut. They all were delicious, the one I liked the most was the one that Francisco got, I know what to order next time.

This is my experience tasting new flavors at Starbucks, I saw mostly students using their Macs and they were kind of hipster haha.

Veterans Day

Hello!!As we all know yesterday Nov 11 was the Veterans Day a very important day for all americans; is a day to honor those who have served their country. There were many activities to do yestarday and too bad! I got the flu yesterday morning and I stayed almost all mornig in my bed but don't worry I'm feeling better haha. So I was  thinking, how am I going to write about Veterans Day? If I didn't go to any places that the teacher told us to go. Then I thought... Sure!! I'm going to talk about the game!! I went to UW vs UCLA game last saturday and at the beggining of the game there was a little tribute to Veterans.

A man who was representing the marines gave a words about the amazing labor that army do in order to protect their people and country. The band played the anthem and displayed the U.S.A. flag.
People next to me watched this event with great attention.
I think that in general americans are very patriots and they have a lot of admiration for people who belong to armed forces this is an interesting fact because we don't see this kind of affection in Mexico.
Too bad Huskies lost the game but it totally worth it.

The Great MOHAI

I'm totally amazed with this Museum. It is one of the most incredible museums I've been.
Every room have something that caught my attencion e.g. the wall full of  beer bottles -and it is not just because I love beer- the room shows the whole story of the alcohol legalization with black and white pictures. Other room that I liked was the one about WWII where you could see a lot of iconic things, here I saw a beautiful woman uniform of the armed forces. I imagined a woman dressed with the uniform and how proud she felt for defend her country.

I'm sure you all loved this museum as much as I. We are very lucky to know amzing places like this. Don't you thin so?

See you soon in my next adventure!!!

A Walk 'Round the Ave

The Ave is one of the most symbolic places around the UW. Today we had to go to visit different types of businesses and ask them some questions about the items they sell and more.
I went with my friend Memo we walk up the Ave, first we went to an Indian food restaurant even tough the owner was really busy he answered all our questions but I found really hard to understand some of them. Then we visited a store called Wodly Mamooth Shoes where the girl was really nice and I asked where the name of the store came from and she said that it was the nickname of the first owner they even have a picture of him and he was really hairy man. After that we to a restaurant called Flowers also in this store the girl was really kind, we asked her what kind of food do they sell and she said that they sell vegan food and salads, we also asked what are the item that they sell the most and of course she said IPA beer for $5 and they open from 11:00 am to 2:00 am it was a really nice place I'd like to go back later to eat something. Then we visited a cigarettes store called Sam's Smoke Store and the owner was a nice Indian man he said that Marlboro are the most popular cigarettes and he's been the owner of the store for 22 years. After that we went to Piece of Mind a tobacco store but here the man got mad when Memo asked him if he sell something else besides tobacco, he said he wouldn't answer any more questions.
In general I think the Ave is a great place where you can find almost everything. I love the Ave.

My Biography

Monica

I was born on October 30, 1992 in Oaxaca City. I'm the youngest in my family. Until I was 5 I lived in my father's hometown, San Gabriel. I remember myself playing with my two brothers all around the yard with my grandpa behind us. Then we had to move to Puerto Escondido, a beautiful city in the coast of the Pacific Ocean. I started my education there. I was really good at Spanish. When I started High School I discovered a lot of new things that I got to love, one of them is folk dancing so I joined the team and I met a lot of great friends and places. I decided I wanted to be more independent and when I was 16 I got a vacation job in an Italian restaurant and I had the chance to learn a lot from my boss, so I discovered I love languages and I started with English and Italian. I studied English for 2 and a half years in Puerto and Italian just for 8 months before I go to Mexico City to get a bachelor degree in administration at UNAM where I resumed my studies in English, Italian and started with Portuguese. I've been living in there since 2011 and I think that now I'm more mature than I was when I started college. I'm more enthusiastic and adventurous and I want to learn the most from this experience.Emoji
